Dr. Bright Okogu has been appointed the new Director-General, Budget Office of the Federation by the President. His appointment is the second duty tour in the Federal Ministry of Finance where he had served as Special Adviser to the Honourable Minister between 2004 and 2007.
The DG obtained his B.Sc. and M.Sc. (Econ.) from the London School of Economics in 1978 and 1979 respectively, and capped his academic pursuit with a Ph.D. from the University of Oxford in 1987.
Dr. Okogu worked at the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), where he served as a Market Analyst between 1989 and 1997, and as a Senior Operations Officer at the OPEC Fund for International Development both in Vienna, Austria. He also had a stint as a Lecturer in Economics at the University of Jos, in the 1980s.
Until his new appointment, Dr. Okogu was a Senior Economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which he joined in 1999. He was at various times in charge of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar.
He played a key role when he worked closely with the then Minister of Finance and other officials to close the deal that made Nigeria to achieve the popular debt relief from the Paris Club of creditors.
